About

Four Alice Springs-based songwriters, a menagerie of instruments, a green suitcase... an intricate musical and visual journey through song.

‘Take My Song, And Run With It’ is the work of Ms Xavia (Xavia Nou), BB Sabina (Beth Uhe), Katelnd Griffin and Tamlyn Lee Magee who have each taken original songs and handed them over to the group to ‘run with’!  The artists each offer their own distinct sound and story, supported by the group's multi-instrumental prowess and taste for stretching boundaries. Vibrant vocal harmonies, cello and harp, accordion and clarinet, percussion and electronic synths along with visual, kinetic and atmospheric elements fill the space, evoking a world bigger than the music, harmonious and greater than a sum of the parts.  Audiences are also invited to “ run” : to come into the space and go where their imagination might take them. The result is a compelling and engaging shared musical experience, an enchanting show where performers change instruments, weave stories and explore the songs both musically and non-musically.

After just four one-off performances, including successful shows in 2016 at the Darwin Fringe Festival and The Desert Song Festival, the Take My Song collective has established an undeniable buzz in central Australia. They look to build on this and continue to test new waters, working with other NT artists, exploring some carefully chosen local and international covers, and further exploring the relationship between the musical and non-musical elements of the production.

"60 very lucky people saw this incredible ensemble at ‘Vocal Jam’ at the Residency during Desert Song Festival in September. “Take my Song and Run with it” was one of the amazing ‘finds’ of the 2016 Festival. I can’t recommend them more enthusiastically! You will not find a better gig this coming Friday."
